Simple Mart Retail starts a new chapter! Using (ESL) all over Taiwan's retail stores

M2COMM CEO Derrick Wei stated that as a leading Taiwanese ESL provider, their collaboration with Simple Mart integrates E Ink’s e-paper technology with their proprietary Sub-1GHz communication system. This results in the ELSA electronic label solution, offering long-range, stable data transmission ideal for diverse retail formats. Unlike traditional ESL systems that require additional hardware, ELSA’s cloud-based deployment enables rapid scaling and plug-and-play functionality, significantly reducing store setup costs and complexity.

Simple Mart CEO Piper Chiu highlighted that beyond supporting ESG carbon reduction goals, ESLs help address labor shortages by reducing costs associated with paper tag printing and logistics. The system is estimated to save over one labor hour per store daily while significantly cutting CO₂ emissions—nearly 7,000 tons annually across all locations. Simple Mart aims to achieve a fully paperless, low-carbon retail environment by mid-2025.

With a decade-long partnership, E Ink CEO Fong-Yuan Kan praised Simple Mart’s dedication to smart retail transformation. By incorporating M2COMM’s expertise, Taiwanese consumers can now experience a more digital, eco-friendly shopping environment.

E Ink’s technology consumes power only when updating content, eliminating the need for wired power connections while providing paper-like clarity. ESLs enable real-time price updates, ensuring a flexible, durable, and sustainable retail solution. Compared to traditional paper tags, e-paper ESLs reduce carbon emissions by 32,000 times.

Looking forward, the adoption of full-color e-paper signage for digital advertising will further replace paper posters and LCD displays, reinforcing the shift toward fully paperless retail operations.

M2COMM’s Global Expansion and Future Vision

Over the past decade, M2COMM has honed its communication technology and, in partnership with E Ink, developed the ELSA ESL system. In just five years, the company has expanded internationally, deploying millions of ESLs across retail, healthcare, and warehousing sectors.

As Taiwan faces an aging workforce and rising labor costs, retailers are increasingly relying on ESLs for enhanced store efficiency and digital transformation. CEO Jun-Kai Wei emphasized that this strategic three-way partnership strengthens M2COMM’s supply chain integration, paving the way for broader industry collaborations and delivering next-generation technological experiences for end users.
