INT-Tech, a leading innovator in display technology, recently demonstrated a RGB OLED micro display with unprecedented brightness of 60,000 nits. This is a 5-fold increase from its previously announced brightness of 12,000 nits in 2022 and a significant leap forward from the current industrial level of about 10,000nits.
OLED micro displays currently used by XR devices are white OLED with color filter, and usually tandem OLED structure with a micro-lens array (MLA) is used to enhance brightness. INT adopted a completely different approach in the beginning and dedicated to developing RGB direct emission micro displays. The technology is named uNEEDXRTM,which stands for ultra-high pixel density for Near Eye Display for XR. By eliminating color filter, and continuous optimization in panel design and manufacturing process, INT successfully pushed the display to the unparalleled brightness level. The 60,000 nits display lighted on recently features a single junction OLED structure without an MLA, and is made from mass production line.
XR devices have extremely high requirement for display brightness. When paired with collimated lens, display at 60,000 nits has an output of 1 lumen, and the brightness reaching eyes through diffractive waveguide is about 900 nits assuming a Field of View (FOV) of 30°. XR device makers believe the desired brightness reaching eyes should be 1500nits or higher for outdoor applications, which requires approximately 100,000 nits from the display. Looking ahead, INT is ambitiously targeting a brightness milestone of higher than 100,000 nits, aiming to push the boundaries of display performance even further.

In order to offer crystal clear image to users in all scenarios, XR displays must have ultra-high pixel density(>3000PPI), high brightness, and low power consumption with a full-color image. These are among the major bottle necks limiting the development of XR glasses. Compared with prevailing micro display technologies including MicroLED and White OLED, uNEEDXRTM stands out with its unique advantages in performance, and is a technology that more comprehensively meets the market's requirements.
Moreover, by eliminating color filter, uNEEDXRTM features a simpler stacking structure than White OLED. Its streamlined manufacturing process enables higher yield and more efficient mass production, making it a more cost-effective solution for XR devices.
Established in 2016, INT-Tech has developed into a group company with affiliates and operations covering Micro-OLED display R&D, manufacturing, sales, marketing, and IC design. uNEEDXRTM was originally initiated by INT-Tech Co., Ltd. To date, there are 275 global patent applications filed for this technology, of which 180 have been granted. The company dedicated to supplying uNEEDXRTM based micro displays on both silicon and glass substrates, bringing cutting-edge micro-display solutions to the XR and other display demanding markets.
INT-Tech plans to showcase the 60,000 nits display and other technology breakthroughs in a series of tradeshows, including Touch Taiwan 2025 (April 16 – 18 in Taipei) and the Society for Information Display (SID) Display Week 2025 (May 12 – 16 in San Jose). People who are interested in having an in-depth discussion are welcome to write to george.huang@int-tech.com.tw and arrange an on-site meeting with the team. Video about the technology is also available on YouTube here.
