Meta Director of Display Research
High-performance LCDs for Future VR
Dr. Yun Wang has over ten years of display product and research development in consumer electronics. Currently, Dr. Wang is the director of display research at Meta/Facebook, responsible for developing novel display concepts and technologies for AR and VR imaging displays. Before that, he led a display panel engineering team at Apple and co-invented the iPhone LTPO TFT backplane technology. He led the iPhone LTPO technology development from incubation, proof-of-concept, and prototype to mass production in the first LTPO iPhone with 10-120Hz adaptive refresh rate display. Before that, Dr. Wang led the engineering team at Intermolecular Inc developing high-mobility IGZO TFT and high-k dielectrics storage capacitors for high PPI LCD applications. Dr. Wang received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Rutgers and holds over 130 patents and 12 technical papers.
Recently, LCD has become one of the major displays in VR headsets. In this presentation, we will present a new LCD architecture, which will enable a glass-type form factor VR. In addition, it improves the LCD efficiency, saves electric power, enables better color performance and image quality.
