    Outline

LEDs driven by TFTs are an example of active drive, with the typical voltage across the TFT being around 5~6V. When replacing a conventional 3V LED with a high-voltage 6V LED, the driving current is reduced to 50-60%, which in turn lowers the power consumption by reducing the current across the TFT. However, implementing a 6V high-voltage LED is challenging for substrate-free microLEDs. In this paper, we propose connecting P-side up and N-side up vertical microLEDs together to create a high-voltage microLED. This new high-voltage microLED design can reduce power consumption by up to 50% by lowering the current across the TFT.
